Workers Memorial Day Poem

In order to honor those who have suffered and died on the job and to renew our efforts for safe workplaces, Melissa Schmaltz has written this short poem.

Treasured Memories

To remember in a day

All the workers gone away

All the mothers, all the fathers,

All of those who came before us.

 

It is too much.

It is all wrong.

It is a crutch.

It takes too long.

 

It doesn’t do to just remember,

To look back and sigh and simmer…

Instead, we could stand up and fight,

And knowledge in others we could ignite.

 

Protect yourself and those around you

From being a story of what NOT to do.

Stop our friends, our families, and our loved ones

From being a memory, even a treasured one.

WASHINGTON – The Occupational Safety and Health Administration on Monday will issue a final rule that clarifies an employer’s continuing obligation to make and maintain an accurate record of each recordable injury and illness. The final rule becomes effective Jan. 18, 2017.
